BOLD : Home
Welcome

BOLD is a Bendigo-based, parent driven group. BOLD supports and provides information to those struggling with the demands of a literacy based world.  We are focussed on community development within a rural setting. We have professional support and links with local and state organisations.

BOLD hosts mornings teas, facilitates information evenings and has provided resources to the Goldfields Library.

BOLD wants to focus on each individual’s strengths and positive qualities.  We encourage a deeper understanding about individual learning styles and encourage the teachihg strategies which benefit all learners, especially those who learn differently.

Please read the stories of Kate DeAraugo and her mother, Sue DeAraugo, which focus on the strengths rather the the challenges associated with a learning difference.

BOLD has an auspice arrangement with St Luke's Anglicare.

Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand

Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand (DFNZ) was formed to provide a voice for, and services to, the estimated one in ten New Zealanders with dyslexia as well as to those supporting them.

DFNZ was successful in having the New Zealand Government recognise dyslexia and has been working hard to facilitate greater recognition, understanding and action on dyslexia.

The DFNZ is an exciting site to see the progress being made especially with regard to providing support and a framework for schools as well as employers and families.  This program is called 4D -'The mantra of the 4D programme is ‘notice and adjust’ – notice the way you or people around you are affected by dyslexia, and adjust your teaching/learning/instructional or managerial techniques accordingly.' Further DFNZ argue 'if you get it right for dyslexics, you get it right for everyone. This is because the type of personalised approaches that benefit dyslexic students, family members and employees can also produce constructive results for other non-dyslexic individuals in the same environment. In essence, equity in education and the workplace is not about treating everyone the same – one size does not fit all. Rather it is about acknowledging individual strengths and weaknesses and working with those.'
